Wet Weather Greets IGA Members

Waterloo residents Cleo Provin and Bill Ritter teamed up to climb to the top of the leaderboard on a rainy day at Fort Dodge CC on Monday. The pair made 10 Net birdies and an eagle against a lone bogey for a narrow one-stroke win. This was Provin's second consecutive win, as he captured the season opening event at Hyperion Field Club earlier in the month.

John Nervig and Larry Olson, both of Ames, fell a shot shy win both made Net bogeys on the par-3 8th hole, their 17th of the day. The Net scores of 60 and 61 were comfortable clear of the third place team of Ed Rippentrop and Roger Stoll who finished with a 7-under 64 team score.

The rain showers continued to hang around Fort Dodge on Monday evening and challenged players once again on Tuesday morning at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course. With the format changing from Four-Ball Net to Individual Net play the scores were a bit higher. Unfamiliarity of a few holes on the golf course and the continuing rain was also a factor for players.

But when the scores were tallied Cedar Rapids golfer Jack Peacock edged Carroll Dethrow of Nevada for a one stroke win at 65 to 66. Jack played very steady golf on the day, recording only Net bogey on his scorecard. Duane Rost, Cleo Provin and Rob Schneider all tied for third with Net 67's.

Thanks to both Fort Dodge CC and Lakeside Municipal for hosting events in 2009 and thanks to all who came out and endured the conditions. We hope to see you in Council Bluffs next month!

Join the Fun in '09

The Iowa Golf Association is pleased to announce the 2009 Members Net Tour schedule. Entering its 4th season, the Members Net Tour will once again be visiting some of the states top venues. The schedule includes four (4) Individual Net and four (4) Four-Ball Net events plus a season ending Championship at Lake Panorama National Resort in Panora, host site of the 2008 IGA Match Play Championship.

The schedule starts strong on Monday, June 1^st and features three total June events. “Opening Day 2009” will be at Hyperion Field Club in Johnston, host club of the annual Herman Sani Invitational, with an Individual Net event. The Tour then moves to northwest Iowa for back-to-back events in Fort Dodge. On Monday, June 15^th the MNT will visit the home of the Fort Dodge Amateur, Fort Dodge Country Club for a Four-Ball event. The following day Lakeside Municipal Golf Course will play host to the second Individual Net event of the season.

After a month long break the schedule picks up again in western Iowa, visiting the Council Bluffs area for back-to-back events at Bent Tree Golf Club and Dodge Riverside Golf Course. Bent Tree received great reviews from contestants at the 2008 IGA Four-Ball Championship and will undoubtedly gain the same respect from those who play in the Four-Ball Net event on July 21^st. The following day Dodge Riverside will host an Individual Net event.

Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames will play host to a Four-Ball Net event on August 3^rd. Home to the Iowa Masters, Veenker Memorial will provide a great venue for the sixth event of the summer.

Before the concludes at Lake Panorama in late September, we will head south to visit a Ottumwa Country Club and The Preserve on Rathbun Lake in Moravia. Ottumwa Country Club, home of the Ottumwa Amateur, will host an Individual Net event on Monday August 31^st, while The Preserve will host a Four-Ball Net event on September 1^st. A great opportunity to play a classic venue built in 1900 in Ottumwa and travel to Moravia to stay at the Honey Creek Resort and play the newly built Preserve on Rathbun Lake, set to open all 18 in 2009.

The Iowa Golf Association is looking forward to the 2009 season and encourages all IGA Members to come out and enjoy a fun day of golf, lunch and prizes at these great Iowa clubs!
